Cornoil – A Growing Feedstock for REG

As demand for biodiesel feedstocks continue to grow, the market for inedible corn oil continues to grow. Today, about one-third of the corn ethanol industry has corn oil extraction technology. The amount of inedible corn oil in the market will grow significantly now that POET has announced its corn oil extraction technology, VOILA. The company intends to install the technology in all 27 plants this year.

Corn oil is one of the lowest, if not the lowest rated carbon intensity feedstocks that can be converted into biodiesel.

After gers received allowance for corn oil extracted by any means from DDGs, is poet playing with fire extracting oil from 27 of their plants? Or is their process somehow different?

I think GreenShifts opinion is pretty clear if oet is infringing. Note this part directly pointing to Poet in the PR: "upstream ethanol production conditions or temperatures;"

In context below:

"we are aware of no practical method to recover corn oil from stillage that does not also rely on our patented corn oil extraction processes. We believe this to be true regardless of the type of equipment or chemicals used; or the upstream ethanol production conditions or temperatures; or the downstream processes used to strip free fatty acids or to filter recovered oil prior to refining.

The only question is this: Do you wait until after you take on a barrel full of monkeys before you take on the 800 pound Gorillia? I suspect that if the Marksman goes well and once they have the third patent in hand - you will see them take on the rest of the infringers.

Big Easy

The infringers are betting that GERS will run out of money to fight with, imo.

Seems to me that we are pretty close to cash flow positive from operations at this point.

Still, an equity investment from a powerhouse like GE is just what we need to make the infringers back down.

Whatever happens, Greenshift has the upper hand. Poet flat out admits an extraction rate of only 3.5%. Greenshift's methods can do that on their worst day. Over 6.5% from the two flows of stillage.

Oil extraction surged 100% in 3 months!

"Corn oil production during the first quarter of 2011 was 10.1 million pounds. During the first quarter of 2011, the Company began corn oil production at two of its plants resulting in corn oil extraction technology deployed at six plants at March 31, 2011. The operating income contribution from corn oil production in the first quarter of 2011 was $2.1 million. "

“Our corn oil extraction technology deployment is proceeding well. We now have six locations producing corn oil and expect to complete the installations at two additional plants by the end of the second quarter. Additionally, we plan on installing the extraction equipment at our recently-acquired Otter Tail ethanol plant during the third quarter,” Becker commented. “These projects have had a positive effect on operating income in this quarter, and we expect their contributions to grow as we progress through the year.”

On a negative note I hope that the infringer strategy of delay, delay, and more delay is not successful. Unfortunately, the common holders are paying all these bills and we will soon need another R/S to increase the pps above par and to free up more shares to be sold for less than the cost of tissue paper. By the time this is righted the current commons holders will likely have very little of the pie that is GERS just desserts. On a positive note did any one else notice in the today's press release that GERS now has another number, one not on its web site -- 888-384-2665. A small sign of progress.
