If you invest time, sweat and money in your corn field and you caught your neighbor harvesting your crop - you would end up in court at the very least.

If you invested time sweat and money in a unique invention, then was forced to publish it so you could get patent protection, and then you neighbor took that information to steal you invention - you WOULD END UP IN COURT AT THE VERY LEAST.

Patented Intellectual property is just as real as land or crops. Do not expect to steal it without someone standing up to defend it.
