ReplyDeleteThree Reasons For PEIX/GERS Method II
ReplyDeleteMaybe PEIX is waiting for GERS method II(1.33 pounds of oil). Calgren's method II system will be complete by the end of the year. Will GERS be upgrading PEIX's plants next since they're already in the neighborhood? PEIX said to expect their California plants to be upgraded by the end of Q113.
Maybe GERS and PEIX are getting financing ready for this system. PEIX could have had ICM install their lower yielding system(.50 pounds of oil) in PEIX's California plants, but they didn't. ICM was even willing to give them the upgrade,(free upfront) like they did in Magic Valley, which PEIX will be paying for from corn oil revenues. So why did they decline?
I think there's three reasons.
#1 Method II is the best option for CA's dairy cows because too much oil in WDGs lowers milk production. The more oil that's removed, the more WDG's that can be fed to dairy cows.
#2 Method II extracts more than double the amount of oil that the ICM system is capeable of. That means 2X's the amount of biodiesel and the California market puts a premium on that fuel.
#3 Method II qualifies as an advanced biofuel technology under the EPA/LCFS in CA. The production of biodiesel at PEIX's plants would make the carbon foot print one of the lowest in the nation thus competing with Brazilian ethanol.
